V-REAL is an XR experience and critical essay about the relentless commodification of our domestic lives, its profound implications for global housing markets, and the increasingly bizarre fetishization of private data.
The experience is centered around a fictional rental service, VAPORS, which harvests and repurposes 3D-scanned real-world apartments sourced from publicly shared asset libraries. VAPORS offers immersive short-term stays within these found digital interiors — in effect, packaging and selling the intimate experience of inhabiting a stranger’s domesticity.

At its core, V-REAL exposes a form of late-stage experience capitalism driven by a growing, media-saturated desire to outsource and consume domestic life, and pushes this logic to the point of absurdity.
It offers a glimpse into a shifting domestic condition by exploring tensions between technology and intimacy, between voyeurism and empathy, and between ownership and appropriation. Through a series of XR performances and reflective dialogues,V-REAL critically engages with the complexities of dwelling, belonging, and their mediation.
V-REAL is funded by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony, co-financed by tax funds from the budget approved by the Saxon State Parliament, and the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union through the European Media Art Platform. It is supported by Onassis AiR and the Onassis ONX Fellowship, and Culture Moves Europe – Mobility Funding for the Creative and Cultural Sectors.
This project is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget passed by the Saxon State Parliament.
