Game engines are environments deliberately designed to provide a framework for the development of video games. Unlike conventional 3D software, they are not only capable of arranging, shaping and visualizing geometries. Rather, they are specifically structured to craft the very relations with and of media objects.

Game engines function as multimedia machines, allowing the arrangement and association of all kinds of digital material. Recipes of Rain, within this framework, seeks to uncover the inventory of these engines and delve into the essence of all virtual environments. Within every computational space, intricate layers and interconnected networks form the foundational fabric. Consequently, game engines provide an ideal platform for exploring and engaging with these interrelated substances and their formation.

Recipes of Rain is an attempt to re-materialise virtual realities by drawing connections between disembodied media objects and the physical corporeal world. Embedded in the field of tension between earthly bodies and their digital representations, and amidst the interplay of mechanical hardware and the sensory imaginings they embody, there exists a commitment to the temporal and relational construction of virtual objects.

This pursuit involves an endeavor to discern the unique characteristics and innate tendencies of objects existing in the enigmatic realm of being 'virtually' material, yet evoking a palpable sense of materiality.

The thesis aims not only to analyze or uncover hidden layers of virtual matter but also to actively participate in the creation of a virtual environment itself. Accompanying the interactive virtual environment, the thesis book documents the insights gleaned from the creative endeavor and offers the theoretical and conceptual framework that guided the practical experiments.
