I FEEL YOU is an artistic and practice-based research project carried out at the Academy of Theatre and Digitality in Dortmund. It investigates intimacy and trust in immersive, mediated spaces, considering them both as interpersonal and intersubjective relationships and as experiences shaped, mediated, and potentially generated through technological environments. The aim of the research is to open up new approaches to understand the dynamics and interactions through which intimacy and trust are experienced, negotiated, and constituted within and through media environments and their specific forms of interaction.


The investigation focuses on the following questions: Which physical and sensory indicators contribute to the establishment of trust in digital interaction spaces? How does the perception of intimacy and trust change when a real interpersonal encounter is replaced by a technological instance? How can performative strategies of physical and technical co-presence in virtual spaces be developed and captured? And finally: What ethical and aesthetic implications arise from digitally mediated intimacy and trust relationships?

To address these questions, an experimental setting in the form of a performative XR laboratory is being developed, which will be made accessible to an interested public in the context of several events.


This research was conceived in collaboration with the Academy of Theatre and Digitality in Dortmund, the M.A. program Theater and Digitality at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, and supported by the Medienkunstfellowship NRW, a fellowship for research projects in the thematic area of art, technology, and society.
