In the face of the ongoing pandemic, there's an amplified urgency to cultivate environments conducive to the perpetual exchange of contemporary ideas. With the exhibition Down By Law, we are responding architecturally and pedagogically to the current situation of mandated distance and isolation, presenting for the first time a design studio that took place entirely in virtual space.
This exhibition showcases the creative endeavors of 133 first-year students, each drawing inspiration from Max Ernst's iconic The Nature of Dawn Evening Devotion, embarking on explorations of surreal landscapes through a myriad of media.
From architectural installations to sketches, sound collages, and mixed-media projects, these works are meticulously curated across 42 virtual chambers, hosted on the social media platform Sansar.
This exhibition Down By Law serves as an example of how university work can be made accessible to a broader audience and how architecture and art can be experienced in a multifaceted way. The social media platform Sansar provides us with an arena where visitors are able to immerse themselves in the virtual milieu, engaging with peers through personalized avatars, and experiencing the virtual exhibition collectively.
Moreover, unlike traditional exhibitions, this virtual showcase endures indefinitely, perpetually accessible to a global audience via the World Wide Web.
